Iskcon Namahatta Programs

Devotional service is very simple, and anyone can adopt it. Let one remain what he is; he need only install the Deity of the Supreme Lord in his house. The Deity may be Radha-Krsna or Laksmi-Narayana (there are many other forms of the Lord). In this way a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra can worship the Deity with the results of his honest labor.

Samskara Patra

One of the attractive and innovative methods introduced by Jayapataka Maharaja to connect more people to the Nama-hatta preaching was the Samskara Patra, an official Nama-hatta “Oath Card” whereby one would pledge to chant at least one round of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra every day. Dozens, sometimes even hundreds, of enthusiastic participants attending the pandal programs would line up after each program and would promise to chant at least one round. Some people would keep this card with them for years and years, proudly showing it to our preachers when coming to the temple, still remembering the day when they received their Samskara Patra.

When Jayapataka Maharaja was very inspired by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s descriptions of organized Nama-Hatta preaching, he initiated this program in the villages of West Bengal in the September of 1979. Under his guidance Raghava Pandit Prabhu (now Bhakti Raghava Maharaja) and other devotees from Mayapur worked hard to develop it. Presently there are about 2000 Nama-Hatta centres spread across India.
